A big thank you to all who took part in this year’s 2010 memorial Bench2Bench - run for Denis, we hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did in organizing it. For the more serious runners we hope it was a chance to enjoy a “race” without the normal pressure, and for the casual runners, an inspiration to get out there more often and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery that cannot be fully enjoyed through a car window, particularly the greenbelts, that Denis enjoyed so much.

There was a slight route change this year in that the 10 km run was reduced to 8 km with the last 3 km's joining the 5 km course.  By all accounts the new route, which comprised a lot more greenbelt, was enjoyed by all and will probably be maintained in future.

After some rain the previous evening the weather played its part and we managed to get the 190 strong field of runners, walkers, kids, prams and dogs away pretty much on time.

Predictions of finishing times this year were generally not as accurate as in the past, although the winning time on the 8 km run was only 1 second out.

Thanks to Lynette Bazeley for her normal perfection in the control of the finish

It seemed that everyone enjoyed the breakfast after their exertions and thanks here go to Sharon and her assistants who were responsible for the timeous delivery and excellent tasting rolls

Prize-giving was as usual humorously presented by Sid Stoffberg, and thanks to the generosity of the many sponsors, many runners received prizes. It was apparent that runners are not generally golfers, as the draw for the Steenberg fourball had to be repeated 4 times before a suitable winner was drawn.

So that was Bench2Bench 2010. We hope you all enjoyed the day and would welcome any constructive inputs you might have that would help make next year’s race an even better experience.

Thanks once again to all who participated in whatever way and we hope to see you all again next year
